Black History Month Reading Series

Throughout the month of February, The Next Vision Foundation
presents the Black History Month Reading Series at the Charles H.
Wright Museum of African American History. This book signing and
lecture series pays tribute to the gifts, talents and history of
African-Americans. The Reading Series is FREE to all participants
and promotes literacy in the community. Authors, illustrators
and celebrities come together to celebrate the abilities,
achievements and potential of our children. Every child that
participates leaves with a book. Over 3,500 children and
families have participated in the Reading Series. We look
forward to reaching more families throughout Annual Black History
Month Reading Series. The Foundation continues to promote
children's literacy and hopes to encourage family participation in
this exciting Reading Series.
During the event, Presenters/Readers engage children in dialogue
and/or read from their book. Authors and illustrators also sign
books for children. Refreshments are served during the
fellowship period at the end of each session.
Some of our Featured Authors and Celebrities include
Deloris Jordan, (Michael's Mom) Salt In His Shoes; Stephanie
Sanders, Q-t Pie Series; M. Lavora Perry, Taneesha's Treasures of
the Heart; Kenya Harper, How Tuya Loves Herself; Congresswoman
Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick; Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick; Serch,
formerly of WJLB FM 98; Frankie Darcell, WXMD Mix 92.3; and Rhonda
Walker, WDIV TV.
